Global Rhythms: Music & Culture for Social Inclusion

“Global Rhythms gave me the opportunity to work with people from a completely different cultural background and learn new ways of creating music. I improved my teamwork and communication skills, and I also became more confident in sharing my own ideas.”

Kevin Reyes Beginner Rhythm Program

“One of the most valuable parts of the project was seeing how a simple musical idea could develop through collaboration, mentoring and feedback. I learned a lot about the creative process and about working together even when we were in different countries.”

Lana Morgan Acoustic Mastery Class

“This project was a great learning experience for me, both personally and professionally. I developed new digital and music production skills, but I also learned how important patience, communication and openness are when working in an international team.”

Mia Torres Weekend Express Course

“Taking part in Global Rhythms allowed me to experience music and culture in a completely new way. Meeting and working with participants from another part of the world was inspiring, and the final result made all the months of collaboration feel worthwhile.”

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Connecting Cultures Through Music

Global Rhythms: Music & Culture for Social Inclusion was an Erasmus+ Small-scale Partnership in the field of youth that connected young people from Romania and Sint Maarten through music, creativity, digital collaboration and international exchange.

The project created a space where participants from different cultural backgrounds could learn from one another, develop new artistic and digital skills, and work together on shared creative outputs. A strong focus was placed on inclusion, intercultural dialogue and providing opportunities for young people who had limited access to international learning and creative experiences.

Project Overview

Global Rhythms: Music & Culture for Social Inclusion was an Erasmus+ KA210-YOU project implemented between 1 October 2025 and 30 September 2026 by Asociația SICULUS 2020 from Romania and the Caribbean Skills & Training Institute Foundation from Sint Maarten. The project brought together 20 young participants through a hybrid workshop in Romania, five months of online mentoring and collaboration, and a final international production phase in Sint Maarten. Through these activities, participants developed artistic, digital and intercultural skills, created three original collaborative tracks, and presented the results through a public final concert in Sint Maarten.

Intercultural Music and Rhythm Workshop

18–24 November 2025

The first project activity was a seven-day hybrid workshop in Romania, bringing together participants from Romania and Sint Maarten. The workshop focused on intercultural exchange, collaborative music creation, digital workflows and teamwork. During the activity, the participants created and completed a collaborative song together, while also developing further musical ideas and creative material for the next phases of the project.

Online Mentorship and Digital Collaboration Program

1 December 2025 – 1 May 2026

During the five-month online phase, the participants continued developing the musical ideas created during A1 with the support of mentors from both sides of the partnership. Through regular online sessions, feedback rounds and remote collaboration, they worked on arrangements, recordings, stems and other pre-production materials. This phase helped participants strengthen their digital, creative and teamwork skills while preparing the music for the final production stage.

Collaborative Music Production and Online Concert

10–24 May 2026

The final project phase combined online preparation with an international onsite programme in Sint Maarten, where nine participants from Romania joined the local group. The activity focused on final rehearsals, recording, production and preparation for the public performance. It concluded with the completion of two final collaborative songs, as well as an international concert in Sint Maarten that presented the results of the Global Rhythms creative process to a wider audience.

The Music

Music was at the heart of Global Rhythms. Across the three project phases, participants developed ideas together, exchanged recordings, received mentor feedback and gradually shaped their work into three original collaborative tracks. The songs reflected the creative exchange between Romania and Sint Maarten and became one of the project’s most tangible artistic results.

Results & Impact

Global Rhythms created results that went beyond the final performances. Participants strengthened their artistic, digital, teamwork and intercultural skills, while gaining practical experience in remote collaboration, music production and international cooperation. The project also created lasting value through three original tracks, a public final concert, dissemination activities, new international connections and continued cooperation between the partner organisations.

THE MUSIC OF GLOBAL RHYTHMS

Three original tracks created through international collaboration

What began as shared musical ideas during the first workshop developed through months of mentoring, remote collaboration and production into three original tracks created by participants from Romania and Sint Maarten.

Each track reflects a different part of the creative process and the exchange of musical influences, ideas and experiences between the two groups. Together, they became one of the main artistic outcomes of Global Rhythms and a lasting result of the international collaboration.

Final Concert in Sint Maarten

The final concert of Global Rhythms took place in Sint Maarten and marked the culmination of the project’s international creative process. Participants presented the results of their collaboration through a live performance, bringing together the musical ideas, skills and experiences developed throughout the previous project phases. The event was also streamed live on the Facebook profile of the partner, allowing a wider online audience to follow the concert and experience the final results of the project beyond the physical venue.

Global Rhythms at Siculus Festival

Global Rhythms results were integrated into the Siculus Festival, showcasing the project's artistic and intercultural experiences. Dissemination activities in Odorheiu Secuiesc included live performances and public discussions, notably the Perkucigo performance followed by an audience discussion. An additional artistic programme supported dissemination and valorisation. Through the festival, project results reached a wider local audience and became part of an established cultural event, extending their impact beyond the original participants.

Dissemination & Follow-up

Dissemination helped Global Rhythms reach audiences beyond the direct participants through public performances, community events and activities integrated into the Siculus Festival. The partner organisations have remained in contact and are exploring future cooperation opportunities based on the experience gained during the project. SICULUS has already started using elements and methods developed through Global Rhythms in its own cultural activities. This helps ensure that the project continues to create value beyond its official end date.
